Leo Gillen's Suggested Reading:

I recently gave Motivating the "What's In it For Me?" Workforce by Cam Marston to a colleague interested in understanding young workers.  Here's Trish Tickle's review:

If you're wondering why your 20-30 year old workers don't want to work past 5:00 or why there is so much frustration between the generations of workers in your company, you need to read this book. Marston explores the unique societal differences between all the generations in the workforce, from Matures (60+) to Millennials (20s) and how these differences affect their work ethic.

Despite Mature's/Boomer's view that Millennials are lazy, Marston shows that, while younger workers work just as hard, they work differently and they're motivated by different things.  While Boomer managers believe working long hours at the office shows their company loyalty, Millennials believe in getting the projects done as efficently as possible so they can go live their life.

You can meld the generations in the workforce into a vital team if you understand how to bring the strengths of each group together.
